Bland Ballard, pioneer and legislator, was born in Pennsylvania, October 16, 1761. After moving to Kentucky in 1779, he joined the militia and defended the western frontier. On March 31, 1788, Ballard's father, stepmother, two brothers, and half-sister were killed by Delaware Indians at Tyler Station in present-day Shelby County, Kentucky.
